Darren Oxbrow
Hi,
My name is Darren Oxbrow and my aim with soccerox is to provide a safe environment for the development of children through football. Sport is great for building confidence and rewarding children for their efforts. I feel it is important for children to enjoy participating in sport and to make the experience fun. We all know that participating in sport is good for social skills and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Soccerox incorporates all this. I have always been active in sport from a young age and participated in a wide range of activities. It was in football that I excelled, and at a young age signed schoolboy forms for Ipswich Town FC. I continued to develop playing for local clubs and attending regular sessions at Ipswich. At 15 I played for the Ipswich youth team, from here I then signed an apprenticeship with Ipswich. After two years I received the news that I was dreaming of, I signed a Professional contract with Ipswich Town. Unfortunately after one year I was told I could leave the club. I went to Maidstone Utd who had just been promoted into the football league, their Manager was Keith Peacock, who incidently had just missed out on the Ipswich town managers post. I made my league debut against Burnley in a 2-1 defeat. In that season, Maidstone reached the play-offs and played Cambridge Utd over two legs. The games were close and decided by a very dodgy penalty decision; I was judged to have fouled Dion Dublin in the last few minutes of the second leg, therefore putting us out and a missed chance of playing at Wembley. We all know what Cambridge went onto achieve. I won the Maidstones Young player of the year award that season. After a further two seasons at Maidstone they sadly went out of business. I still had a two year contract to run, so it was very disappointing. I signed for Colchester Utd at the start of the season and scored on my debut in the home win against Lincoln City. I only featured in 16 games scoring 4 goals and left for Barnet after only three months at Layer road. Barnet had Barry Fry in charge, what a character he is!. Barnet won promotion at the end of the season and it was great to be part of the squad.
